The phrase Kate couldn’t think of was “religious consultant”

Summary:

American diplomat Robert adopts Damien when his wife, Katherine, delivers a stillborn child. After Damien’s first nanny hangs herself, Father Brennan warns Robert that Damien will kill Katherine’s unborn child. Shortly thereafter, Brennan dies and Katherine miscarries when Damien pushes her off a balcony. As more people around Damien die, Robert investigates Damien’s background and realizes his adopted son may be the Antichrist.

Nerd Corner:

What was happening in the 70s?

  • Watergate, Nixon resignation, pardoning of Nixon by Ford Administration
  • Double-digit inflation
  • Oil shocks (bookending the 70s)
  • Rise of fundamentalist churches

Premillennial Dispensationalism- formal name for John Nelson Darby’s belief system (leader of sect called Plymouth Brethren)

Christian Fundamentalism: believes in the literal truth and accuracy of the bible, especially as it pertains to the end times (rise of the antichrist, rapture, second coming, eternal heaven and earth)

The Omen tapped into cultural anxieties and a feeling of hopelessness.

Kate Notes:

If I may suggest, it even resembles. Your wife need never know. Great great great. Love keeping a secret from your wife. Especially after she shoved a baby out her vag.

Damien out there with the nanny that he’ll murder with his mind.

I don’t really know what ambassadors do. Everything about ambassadors I learned from that Mary Kate and Ashley movie Winning London.

the Nanny sees a rottweiler and stares into its eyes too long. Oops. there’s one thing about hellhounds you gotta know..

Nothing like Latin chanting as you check out the giraffes. Ah, they get wind of him and run away.

Those monkey’s have crimped hair fit to make a 2000s slumber party girl jealous.

“But he’s only playing” “it’s not that bad” says the father who spends much less time with Damien than Kathy.

Baylock just watches as he bikes in circles. Is that how you’ll lead the legions of hell, child? Gotta get off that tric someday!

She tries to catch herself, but her hands slide. How does she end up facing down after that. I want to know the physics.

The blood coming out of her mouth is much too milky.

Nothing like stroking the hair of the child you might murder. Ah, pulling the hair back to check for the devil’s mark. I c u.

Alright, well you got that sweet sweet birth mark of the devil.

The whisper tracks and chanting really do make this movie. Damn Baylock really is intense.

He carries the lump of antichrist into the car. The relative quiet of the car in the night after that cacophonous scene.
